We are in a world surrounded by bloggers. They are everywhere, blogging about everything possible. Food? There’s someone blogging about it. Art? There they are. Health? Look at Dr. Blogger over there! Have you ever wondered why they do it, though? Time to get comfy, gorgeous, and allow me to tell you about the mysterious world of blogging and how joining it may just be one of the best things you do for your wedding business.
Okay, first things first. A blog is a series of online articles from personal perspectives about certain topics and interests. They can often be described as being similar to diary or journal entries, as this was the way they were first originally intended. Not, the kind of journal where you would spill your deepest darkest secrets, as we all know, the Internet is public, so that really is not advisable. Unless, of course, you want to. But anyway, blogging is more the kind of space in which thoughts, concepts and opinions are documented.
Nowadays, blogging has taken a little bit more of a professional turn. For example, a lot of creative businesses have blogs on their websites. They do this for many reasons which I am going to explain below. I am also going to explain why you, awesome wedding creative, ought to start blogging right away, if you haven’t already done so. Let’s get to it, shall we?
You may have a website, you may even have some social media pages. But are you really being seen? Are people aware of you? Blogging regularly can really raise awareness for your wedding business and brand. Sure, it’s just another page on your website, but it’s a page of interest, and with interest, comes awareness. You want to be known, right?

I’m guessing you’ve heard of this term? Search engine optimisation, SEO for short, is basically making your website friends with Google. It is very important that Google likes your website and your business, because it plays a very important part in getting your content to your audience. Trust me when I say, Google can be bitchy. If it doesn’t like your site, you’ll be ranked right down in the depths of cyberhell.
Anyway, I digress. One of the main ways to get Google to like you is to keep updating your site. What better way to do this then to add regular content? This allows Google to keep updated with your website and business and rank you in search terms. Please take note, this is only one of the aspects of good SEO, there are many more that are not discussed in this particular article.
So, not only does blogging get Google all pally with you, it brings in traffic (visitors) to your website. And what do more visitors mean for your wedding business? Potential clients, of course!

A blog is a great way to show off your expertise in your field. If you know what you’re talking about, you can give great tips and advice in articles that can provide real value to your audience. By doing this, you are not only helping them, you are building their trust and eventually, you will be seen as an expert. Want to be the go to resource for tips on luxury venue styling or wedding planning for the rich and famous? Get writing!
you’re only human
It’s really easy to hide behind your business. Granted, not so much in the wedding industry, as it is a fairly social community. However, it’s really good to be seen by your clients and your colleagues as being the same as them. Writing as yourself can help with this. It humanises you and makes you more relatable to as a person. That’s why it’s very important when you do write a blog article, to write as you speak. Be yourself, if you like to laugh, be funny. If you are sarcastic, let it show. I think I have mentioned before, I have a sense of humour similar to Chandler in Friends, I do apologise! Being yourself attracts people and gets them to like you. In turn this like becomes trust, and so on…Do you see where I’m going with this?

A lot of people I work with actually show weddings they have worked on in their articles. Some use photographs from the actual events, some just talk about them. Whether you focus on particular weddings or just highlight what you do, you are still showing off your skills and experience. For example, a wedding photographer may use certain shots they have taken of a couple’s special day and add in a brief commentary. A stylist may just talk about the best way to create a tablescape. You can take an article in so many different directions in order to show your talents. Take advantage of that! Just as importantly, be proud!
If you already have a website up and running, adding a blog to it will be no problem at all. If you don’t have a website, and are not considering getting one in the near future, it still isn’t a problem. There are a few sites which enable you to blog for free. Blogger being one of them. If there is a free method of marketing for your business and it could end up getting you more clients, why wouldn’t you use it?
There are probably so many more reasons why you should be blogging for your wedding business, but these are by far the most important. If you enjoy writing, you will love blogging. It’s a brilliant way to show off what you do and write about what you love. Whether you are a wedding planner, a wedding photographer or a wedding stylist, even, writing a blog can really boost your business.
